The terms “detox” or “cleanse” are often tossed around by health and wellness industries and experts, yet there is no agreed-upon method for the best way to perform a cleanse. Simply giving up alcohol and sugar can help detox the body, as can eliminating harmful toxins from the home, but a cleanse usually goes beyond that. Some people consider drinking only green juices or cayenne pepper and lemon water for a week or 10 days to be a cleanse while others focus on eating cleaner or taking supplements. While no formal definition exists to define a cleanse, the overarching goals are usually the same—rid the body of toxins, feel more energized, and in many cases, lose weight.
